Welcome to the inaugural Pacific Belt Open Feis

What a privilege to be at the first running of an amazing new competition!

We are at the Penola Catholic College in Broadmeadows Victoria.  The feis is held in a purpose-built performing arts centre and there is plenty of seating with uninterrupted views of the stage.  The dance surface is full depth and width so there is plenty of room for the dancers to compete.

Feis update

It is becoming chilly in the hall and there is s rumour of the sound of fathers chopping wood in the distance - the hall being without any heating facilities :(  A suggestion was made to ChaosCentral that perhaps the doors could be shut, we replied that it was too late and the dancers were already inside; perhaps a slight misunderstanding about the intent of the suggestion!

We are running a little late so don't expect the results and photos until after 1800...even more important as one of the adjudicators must leave by 1730 for the chillier climes of the ACT...

Not a single chocolate crackle was sighted the whole weekend; the canteen is now running-down its stocks of toasted sandwiches and cakes, so now would be a good time to rush off and buy some.  And do remember to feed any itinerant, broke and starving Uni students you may see in the hall...

Gourmet food has lost the BBQ, so we suppose that means that the only hot food on sale is toasted sandwiches, still a good option on a Sunday afternoon :)

We are running a little late today; some of the dancers are slightly tardy in getting to the stage :)

News from the feis

A young dancer in the 7 Years Traditional Set dance just demonstrated a very cool and calm demeanour; the music suddenly stopped about 8 bars before the end.  She paused for a beat whilst looking at the teacher controlling the music, then kept dancing through to the end with no music.  The hall was completely silent until she finished, then burst into very loud applause.

Very impressive and cool for a 7 Year old!

Welcome to Sunday at the AIDA Graded & Reserve Premiership

My goodness, but it is chilly in here today.  The school hall is thoughtfully equipped with airconditioning that appears to be a) not operating and b) for cooling only.  So, bring your winter woollies if you are coming to the early or late sessions :)

Of course, one could avail oneself of the fantastic hot food provided by today's canteen; sausages, bacon and egg sandwiches, hot coffee....chocolate crackles not yet sighted.  Still, plenty of great food to get the internal fires working.

The 7 & 8 Years are now on stage, the hall is absolutely jam packed and the car park...never thought that there sere so many under-aged drivers around.  There was no parking left at all, whereas yesterday morning, for the age groups that can legally drive, the car park was only 50% full.  Clearly we need further investigation :)

The Graded sections are nearly finished, there have been a couple of spills resulting in some withdrawals, but the dancers are in good spirits.

In other news, the canteen is still doing a roaring trade, now mainly hot drinks and hot food as it is getting cold inside the hall and there are no heaters...
