In Arena 1, the LiveCommentary team is beside themselves with excitement (there is only one of us here, but we do whatever the other voices in our head tell us)....the 19 Years are marshalling and the day is about to get underway.

Fabulous Friday at the Nationals

A wonderful, warm and sunny morning on the Gold Coast and, much to the surprise of the horologicaly-challenged ChaosCentral, a later start than expected :)  As we entered the venue this morning, we were amazed by the lack of people - where were the seething masses of wigs and frocks, the chatter of excited participants (and dancers), the light and movement and colour that is Irish Dancing preparing for the first session of the day?

We surmised that there must have been a reverse-Jig effect.  Last night, several hundred Irish Dancers attended an AIDA-organised special screening of Jig.  Three theatres were packed with dancers (photos available at https://picasaweb.google.com/100846282466802407546/Nationals2011IDTVGoesToJig).  Could it be rather than inspiring the dancers, it had the reverse effect and, thinking that they could never be world champions, they stayed away from the competition today?  NO, we didn't read the program correctly to see that the competitions started early today!

So, here we are, sitting all alone at ChaosCentral, marvelling at the smoothly running technology, and thinking that one day, we should actually read the programme so we are in the right place at the right time :)

And, Jig is wonderful, uplifting, awe-inspiring and, byt the looks of the people in the theatre, an accurate reflection of dancers, teachers and parents......well worth seeing and buying the official DVD when released.

Feis update

The Ceili dances have almost finished, and some of the team dancers have come back to the presentation arena.  It is also getting noisy, so either there is a civil insurrection happening, or the presentations are about to start.....we are going with the latter.

Crisis has been averted.

The looming problem of a closed bar has been solved. We have now achieved sporting status and the bar will be open each evening.

Last drinks and three hands

The Girls under 13 three hands have finished up, so in just a moment we will be going on with the mixed 3 hands.  There are 18 teams in this section.

In other news: centre management have just informed us that the bar here is only opened for sporting events, and therefore will not be opened today (despite the fact that it has been open for the past two nights).  We will keep you posted on this situation - because we very possibly may have nothing better to do with our evening than continue to sit and play with our computers.

Three Hand Choreographies Continue

The Three Hand Girls and Mixed Choreographies continue in Arena 2, it is rather difficult to find anyone with three hands however Irish Dancing seems to specialise in these... Coming up next... The Three Legged Race/Choreographies - Well, maybe not.

And that, as they say, is that... with the completion of the under 13 mixed 4 hand ceili, in a few moments we will move on with the girls 8 hand ceili championship.  There are 15 teams in this section - after which we move on to the Mixed 8 hand ceili, which has 13 teams.

Thank you to our musicians for this morning's session - although they may not be willing to try it, I'm fairly sure they could play that tune blindfolded.  Possibly only with one hand each...
