Welcome to Sunday at the Claddagh Feis

This morning is cold - so cold, that the toasted sandwiches are cold between the time they are cooked and you take your first bite!! Even the Canberra dancers are looking a shade of blue - no, hang on, those are the Simpson colours.....

The stage has been swept by Kate Halloran, who must be wondering why she left a warm holiday (nice suntan) to return to chilly Sydney. This morning we are starting with the 9 & 10 years, they are on stage now.

The Sub Minors have completed both rounds

The subbies are awaiting their results. Milton is getting his camera ready for some lovely photos. There are great trophies and sashes to be won and medals for the set dance round.

6 years are now doing their soft shoe round

7 years Hard Shoe Round has been completed

It is a lovely big stage here. The eight year olds are dancing for the Kristen Knox perpetual trophy. Kristen Knox studied with Donna and Leanne Halloran for many years and was Australian champion many times over. She now has her own school based in Menai.

The Premiership rounds have commenced.

The 7 years have commenced their hard shoe round. The six year olds are having their shoes changed into soft shoes for their next round. The 8 year olds are waiting in the marshalling area.
The warm up sets have completed for the 6-7-8 years. These can be danced three at a time at this age.
There are 8 six year olds dancing 6 seven year olds and 18 dancers in the 8years section. This is an open competition so the younger dances are in their new dresses and the boys in some handsome vests. The standard is very high for dancers so young. They are dancing their warm up traditional set dances. The Blackbird and St Patrick's Day seem to be the choices this morning.

The dancing has started

The 6, 7 & 7 years are now dancing their first round, three at a time.

Welcome to the Claddagh Feis!

The hall has just opened and parents and dancers are streaming in for the morning's competition. There is a wonderful canteen, stocked with home made cakes, sandwiches and chocolate crackles (my favourite!)

It is a very cold morning in Sydney, clear and with a slight breeze. The venue is within the sports auditorium of the school and with the cool temperatures, is reminiscent on a Nationals held in Adelaide at the sports stadium. However, in this case, it will warm up.

Competition is due to start about 0900, stay tuned for updates.
