We are running a little early and that provides the opportunity for the younger age groups to get themselves organised and settled before dancing their second round. The hall is quite full with family and friends watching the younger dancers.

Gourmet Food update
ChaosCentral is ideally positioned to bring you the latest details as we have set-up right in front of the door to the Chinese restaurant within the Concord RSL. So well positioned that we expect to be move3d along once they open! The Bistro is open for cappuccinos and lattes, and at 1145 they are open for food. Despite an extensive search, not a single chocolate crackle was sighted.

Today, we are at the last Sydney competition for 2011 and also at one of the longest-running competitions in Sydney, if not Australia. The Four Provinces Feis is run at the Concord RSL and the dancers are competing on tarquet, three strips wide, on the floor in front of the adjudicator.

Today's dancing schedule is as follows:
1000 8 Years Beginners, Primary, Elementary, Intermediate and Open
1100 4, 5 and 6 years Beginners and Primary

Another amazingly successful competition, with emotional highs and lows, fantastic dancing, amazing musicians and - best of all - it ran on-time or early every day!

We have seen the introduction of IDTV and hopefully it will continue and grow over time, we have experienced the wonderful warmth and friendship of QLD and dancers from all over Australia.

ChaosCentral was awoken this morning by an iDevice that believes daylight saving exists in QLD. Luckily, ChaosCentral is smarter than an iDevice and so went back to sleep. Anecdotal evidence from the venue suggests that dozens, if not a hundred others did not go back to sleep, and so arrived at the venue bright and early....one hour too early, to be precise :)

Having recovered from yesterday's sturm and drang, ChaosCentral arrived at the sumptuous CastleChaos Production Facility to find it abandoned - casting our eagle eye about the scene, as far as we could see, we couldn't see anyone at all. So today's LiveCommentary, photography and results could be the result of a single deranged imagination (as per usual).

The final solos have been competed and won, and Sunday is teams day, ceili day and rest and relax day - but not for ChaosCentral who will continue to provide a somewhat erratic service until the Nationals After-Party (also known as the ceili) is finished!

Once again, todays shambles wouldn't have come to you without the assistance of the following suspects:

Theapatra Ross, whose photography is improving by the day and is now allowed to play with real film - or at least to take really important photos, like the winners :)
Aisling O'Brien, whose insightful comments during the day will have kept you all in stitches, and certainly without her, none of you would have the results as she types them in as well as checking them....
Bianca Nicholls, who learned that being a presenter on IDTV is not as scary as it seems
And to Katie Smith, who did the final presentations of the day when Bianca Nicholls learned that being a presenter on IDTV was more scary than it seemed.

Lunchtime at the Nationals is over, and in Arena 1 the 18 Years are marshalling for their set dances. In Arena 2, the 17 Years are warming up, stretching and making last minute preparations for their first round.

And today, Andrew Roberts from the Roberts Academy SA is the lucky birthday boy. In the tradition of ChaosCentral, he said that he would buy a drink for anyone who wished him happy birthday (well, he may not have actually said that, but its worth a try, he might do so.....)

Three big age groups are on today, 16, 17 & 18 Years - and they are all highly competitive. It will be an interesting day's competition, between celebrations last night for the senior dancers and then the AIDA cruise through the canals, there could be quite a few people moving slightly more slowly today. The weather for the weekend is ideal for dancing - overcast with the occasional shower. Inside, the temperature is heating up as dancers arrive. It will be a long day, with the last presentation scheduled to start at 2100.

Today, all dancing is scheduled to be in Arena 2, with the exception of the 16 & 18 Years recalls. The dancing programme is:

Another day's wonderful dancing and at ChaosCentral, we are all excited and nervous for Super Saturday, when interests close to home come under Irish Dancing scrutiny!

A big thank you to people without whom today's LiveCommentary and IDTV wouldn't have worked.

Aisling O'Brien who provided insightful comments as the day wore on....and on....and on....;
Jacqui Schweiwe who was IDTV's guest presenter, marks enterer and general all round helper;
Sinead Watkins, who stepped in to say hello and had a camera thrust into her hand with the command "go forth and get VoxPops" - which she did;
and Theapatra Ross, who decided that today was the day to learn how to do competition photography and therefore pestered everyone just like ChaosCentral usually does. She also sourced panadol and coffee to assist in the smooth (?) running of ChaosCentral.

AND, or course the official purveyors of chocolate crackles and fire water, mentioned earlier today :)

A special mention...

For some of our Seniors this year will be their last time on the stage at Nationals, for some their last championships altogether. Some will go on to sit their exams in Queensland in May next year, and we will still see their faces around these halls for years to come. Some will settle back to their careers, their children, their families and somewhat "normal" life, not involving (or at least on a much lesser scale) fake tan, sequins and wigs. But before they go, we would like to say thank you to all - for the years of love and dedication that you have given this sport of ours. For the hours of hard work, for the sweat and the tears, for the smiles and the joy. We have laughed, cried, stood back in amazement and wonder, shared and realised our hopes, dreams and fears as we have grown together and become a part of the fabric of this community of irish dancing. So though you may be leaving the stage for the last time, and you may be gone from the feisanna and the classes, your dance shoes in boxes gathering dust, you will not be forgotten. You have all become a part of this, as it has become a part of you.

No sport is all sunshine and roses. In fact, after about 16 years of dancing there will naturally be parts of it that you will get fed up with. But, as Miss Jan told us in her speech today, at the end of it all, we all just love to dance. And it is that which unites us. And if you are about to leave us, should one day you wish to return you will be welcomed with open arms, because it will be like coming home.
